About Us

With nearly 20 years experience of working in clinical diagnostic mycology, the time is right for us to start to share our knowledge and skills with others so that the next generation of clinical microbiologists can be confident in the identification and interpretation of fungal organisms isolated in the clinical diagnostic laboratory.

We participate in the EQA scheme for mycology provided by UK NEQAS to ensure that you can have confidence in the identifications which are generated by our team of expert mycologists.

“Having a small group really enables questions and additional information if required. I would not have asked so many questions in a large group. The large number of isolates available to examine at our leisure was fantastic.”

“Everything was wonderful. Both of you have been so welcoming, approachable and have explained things in the best way. I have thoroughly enjoyed myself theses past couple of days… I, for the first time in my life, can say that I feel confident in fungal identification and am excited to bring my new skills and knowledge back to the lab and improve our service. Overall, amazing atmosphere, great presentation and most of all outstanding teachers!”

“I really enjoyed the course (over 3 days) and found the mixture of tutorials and hands on lab work engaging. I also really enjoyed seeing the more unusual and lesser seen strains that we don’t encounter in our lab”

Zoë Midgley, Specialist BMS, UHMBT NHS Trust.

Amy Brown, Specialist Biomedical Scientist, University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust.

“The course was excellent, I have really enjoyed it and learnt so much. I liked the morning lectures before the practical to learn all the theory which gets missed in the lab. It is a nice friendly environment to learn in with everything you need provided. I also really loved the lunches! Thank you for a great week.”

“I really enjoyed the course – Thank you! Your experiences and knowledge alongside both of your enthusiasm for mycology is clear to see. It was good to spend time on both theoretical knowledge (which often is time-limited in lab teaching day-to-day) and hands on practical sample work. A good balance of both aspects. Alongside answering all out questions! A well thought through course and facilities to deliver it too. Very glad that I was able to undertake all 3 sessions that have given me the skills and knowledge to take away and build on.”

“Truly superb! A really immersive course with a wealth of information provided. An opportunity to study clinically relevant fungi which are rarely seen in the lab day-to-day. Course material and delivery is diverse and detailed. Mark and Zoe were exceptional points of knowledge, providing insight and expert knowledge with ease in an easily understood manner. Exceptional!”

“So welcoming and patient with us, it was incredible how much time and effort you put into just the preparation alone, it was great to have so much time to do hands on work in the lab and actually handle the different cultures, I really appreciated that and found it really helped with my learning experience along with having you both at hand to absorb some of your fungal wisdom. I really did learn a lot and valued my time there and that's all thanks to yours and Zoe's hard work. I haven't shut up about the course since I arrived back and have already started putting into practice the new techniques I've learned. I can honestly say your course just made me love Mycology more and made me even more fascinated with the wonderful world of fungi.”
